HANOI, VIETNAM – Vietnam Airlines has officially inaugurated its direct service between Hanoi (HAN) and Cebu (CEB), marking a key milestone in the carrier’s expanding international network. By connecting Vietnam’s capital with one of the Philippines’ most popular island destinations, the new route enhances air connectivity across Southeast Asia. It offers travelers more convenient access to leading beach and resort destinations.
Vietnam Airlines Launches New Direct Flights Between Hanoi and Cebu
The inaugural service, Flight VN643, was operated by an Airbus A321 and carried around 100 passengers, including tourists, business travelers, and invited guests. The flight departed Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport at 22:50 on December 2. It arrived at Mactan–Cebu International Airport at 03:30 local time on December 3, after a flight time of roughly three and a half hours.
To mark the launch, Vietnam Airlines hosted special celebrations at both Noi Bai and Mactan–Cebu airports. Passengers on the first flight were welcomed by airline executives and local airport authorities, and were presented with commemorative gifts and souvenirs. The ceremonies underscored Vietnam Airlines’ commitment to strengthening regional links, tapping into growing demand for travel between Vietnam and the Philippines, and contributing to broader economic and cultural exchange in Southeast Asia.
Vietnam Airlines’ new Hanoi–Cebu route marks the airline’s first direct, non-stop link between the Vietnamese capital and one of the Philippines’ most popular island destinations, further strengthening air connectivity within Southeast Asia and offering travelers a smoother way to explore both countries.
Cebu is renowned for its pristine white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, and scenic island landscapes, as well as its deep cultural and historical heritage shaped by both Spanish and indigenous influences. The province offers a wide range of travel experiences: tranquil beach escapes on Mactan and nearby islands, world-class diving and snorkeling, island-hopping tours, and a vibrant urban center with diverse dining, nightlife, and shopping options. Visitors can also enjoy eco- and adventure-based activities, including canyoneering in Badian, hiking, whale shark watching in Oslob (subject to responsible tourism guidelines), and visits to picturesque waterfalls and marine sanctuaries. These varied attractions make Cebu ideal for couples, families, solo travelers, and groups seeking both relaxation and adventure.
Flights from Hanoi to Cebu depart every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, providing passengers with flexible options for short breaks or longer holidays. Return flights from Cebu to Hanoi will operate every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, enabling smooth, well-timed itineraries for travelers starting their journey in either city.
With a direct flight time of approximately three hours, the new service dramatically shortens the journey between Hanoi and Cebu compared with connections that require transits in other regional hubs. This reduction in travel time not only adds convenience but also improves overall comfort for passengers, particularly those traveling with children or connecting to onward domestic flights.
For Vietnamese visitors, the route offers a fast, reliable gateway to Cebu’s renowned beaches, resorts, and marine attractions. For travelers from the Philippines, it creates an easy, non-stop link to Hanoi, Vietnam’s historic and cultural heart. Hanoi is widely celebrated for its atmospheric Old Quarter, French colonial architecture, lakes and tree-lined boulevards, and rich culinary scene featuring specialties such as pho, bun cha, banh mi, and egg coffee.
From Hanoi, travelers can conveniently access some of northern Vietnam’s most iconic destinations. These include Ha Long Bay, famous for its towering limestone karsts and overnight cruises; Ninh Binh, often called “Ha Long Bay on land” for its riverine landscapes and ancient temples; and Sapa, known for its terraced rice fields, cool mountain climate, trekking routes, and ethnic minority cultures. By linking Cebu directly to Hanoi and its surrounding highlights, Vietnam Airlines expands tourism opportunities, supports business and cultural exchange, and offers passengers more options for multi-destination itineraries across Vietnam and the Philippines.
Dang Anh Tuan, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, said: “The Hanoi to Cebu service represents more than just a new route. It strengthens cultural and economic connections between Vietnam and the region, creating new opportunities for travel and collaboration. Vietnam Airlines is dedicated to providing safe, and high-quality services that promote tourism and foster closer ties between the two countries.”
The launch of the direct Hanoi–Cebu service aligns with Vietnam Airlines’ strategy to expand its international network, particularly in Southeast Asia—a high-potential market with strong tourism growth. This new route will further promote tourism, trade, and cultural exchange between Vietnam and the Philippines, thereby supporting the broader development of regional aviation and tourism.
