At 10:19 p.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service released a dense fog advisory in effect until Friday Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. for North Bay Interior Valleys.
The NWS San Francisco CA says to prepare for, “Visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog.”
“Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous,” according to the NWS. “If driving, slow down, use your low beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you. Patchy dense fog will result in sudden changes in visibility. Visibility at times will fall below one-quarter of a mile. Use your low beam headlights, slow down, and be prepared for periods of hazardous driving conditions.”

In extremely dense fog where visibility is near zero, the best course of action is to first turn on your hazard lights, then simply pull into a safe location such as a parking lot of a local business, and stop.
No parking options:
If no designated parking area is available, pull your vehicle as far off the road as possible. Once stationary, deactivate all lights except the hazard flashers, engage the emergency brake, and release the brake pedal to ensure your tail lights are not illuminated, reducing the risk of other drivers colliding with your stationary vehicle.
